It's been a while since I've posted here, and the first time from a tablet. This will be brief, but pleasant. The few posts I've done have mostly been full of exasperation, so I thought I'd share a nice moment.
Today, Monkey and I had our second daddy/daughter date night. I started doing this when Krista had plans that kept her out late, and u was too tired to cook dinner. The first time we had sushi. This evening, we swung by Panda express. The plan was to go pick up a movie, but instead, I took us to Barnes & Nobles. It's been so long since I've been to a book store, I forgot how much I miss smell and feel of the place.
They had someone reading in the kids corner, so Monkey good to have a book reading while I picked out a book to buy for her. I bought a collection of fairy tales that should keep her entertained for a while. She tends to pick the same books a lot, so I felt a change was needed. Then she saw something she had to have. It was a fashion sketch pad. She's been making "Barbie dresses" out of whatever scrap material she could get her hands on. This sketch pad had outlines of women, so that you could draw or design a dress on them. And it wasn't cheap.
So, the original plan was to let her pick out a movie. So I let her make a choice. Either the book or the movie. I have to say, it warmed my heart that she picked the book with barely a second's thought. We went home, and she drew dresses while we watched a movie on Netflix. When I told her it was time to get ready for bed, she cleaned up her crayons (without having to be told), and promptly brushed her teeth and got in bed. I read some stories out of the book I bought her, and she feel asleep in record time.
All in all, daddy/daughter date night #2 was a resounding success, and even got rid of my foul mood from work. Like I said, a very pleasant moment in a day full of shit.
